Ambrose Bierce did not define Drama in his Devil’s Dictionary, but if he had he would probably have defined it as: Unbelievable Events which are Absolutely True. Exempli gratia: A Mexican novela Soap Opera.
And that’s what Jenny McGill’s Drama & Diplomacy in a Sultry Mexican Beach Town reads like. Many descriptions come to mind: Tight-Tough; Mean-Lean; Sad-Sorrowful; Surrealistic-Realistic; Happy-Hilarious – which all add up to an absolutely-delightful reading experience. Try to imagine a composite painting by Diego Rivera, Pablo Picasso, Frederic Remington and Manuel Lepe – laid on with a bold brush which neither falters nor blushes – and you have a perfect image of this honest and touching work by former U.S. Consular Agent Jenny McGill.
How refreshing to read something by a diplomat which rings of Truth! This book is a must read for anyone with the slightest interest in Puerto Vallarta – or for that matter, for anyone who just loves to cry and laugh a lot.
